Professor of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Xiamen University, Prof. Hong previously held prominent roles at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and the National University of Singapore (NUS), where he served as Professor, Founding Director of the Center for Frontier Research and Technological Innovation, and Director of the Optical Science and Engineering Center. A distinguished Fellow of the Singapore Academy of Engineering, he is also an elected Fellow of Optica (OSA), SPIE, the International Society for Photonics and Laser Engineering (IAPLE), and the Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES), solidifying his reputation as a preeminent scholar and global leader in laser optics and micro/nano-processing technologies. Prof. Hong’s research focuses on laser micro/nano-fabrication and precision detection, pioneering internationally acclaimed advancements in laser micro-manufacturing, laser cleaning, laser welding, and optical inspection. His prolific scholarly output includes over 500 peer-reviewed articles in top-tier journals such as Nature, Nature Nanotechnology, Science Advances, and Nature Communications, alongside 15 co-authored monographs and 42 patents granted in China, Singapore, the U.S., and Germany. As a key figure in academic publishing, he serves as Executive Editor of Opto-Electronic Advances, Opto-Electronic Science, and Opto-Electronic Engineering, Associate Editor of the Journal of Central South University (English Edition), Advisor to Ultrafast Science (a Science partner journal), and Editorial Board Member of Light: Science & Applications (a Nature partner journal), Engineering (flagship journal of the Chinese Academy of Engineering), Science China: Physics, Mechanics & Astronomy, Physics, and Laser Micro/nanoengineering.
